1966 Mercedes-Benz 230S 4-Speed on Bat

This 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230S was purchased by Classic Motorsports magazine in 2011 as a project car and was refurbished over the course of three years, during which time it also participated in rallies and other events. The car was acquired in 2014 by the seller, who picked it up in March 2015 at Amelia Island in Florida and participated in the Orange Blossom Tour before bringing it to Arizona. A 2.5-liter M114 inline-six was installed during the refurbishment and is paired with a floor-shifted 4-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional modifications include an electric fuel pump, rear disc brakes, brake cooling fins, and 14” wheels. This W111 is finished in Light Blue over red MB-Tex and is now offered with records from the Classic Motorsports project and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.

Sure fetched a pretty penny already

I never have seen this one on the road here in Az. Scott get in touch with the owner and sell him the original cap or give it to him from my old inventory. That new filler cap looks just too taccky. :-[ ;)

Apparently it has a 250 engine in it, not the original 230 engine, so maybe that cap is correct for that engine? The original cap would have threaded in, while this type of cap twists into place. So, that engine may be stuck with that cap. Unless... a 220/230 valve cover would fit. But, I just sold one of the two I got from you and gave the other one to my roommate.

No, no! That's good for all of us who own these cars.

Now if you're on the other side and are looking to buy, well, not so good.

And that car, while "restored", was a bit of a one-off for all the stuff they had done to it. It would never appeal to a purist. I like 230s, but it didn't appeal to me in the least.
