Welcome to the forum and it sounds like you have an awesome car, even with the transmission issue.

Do you have the full transmission manual? The tear-down and rebuild is a separate book from the rest of "Starting 1959..." service manual.

I just read his feedback profile. Lots of positives, very few negatives, all with reasonable responses.

My guess is that he's a level headed, intelligent bloke and as long as you pay by credit card, you might well get what you paid for.
(Presuming your credit card company will help get you a refund in the face of that statement being faulty).

It's been about 30 years since I've talked to anybody about front end alignment on a king pin suspension.
Won't your choice of rotation make a subtle change in ride height and the adjustment of the flat spring in front would need a follow-up?

Want a 64 300se coupe shell?  There's no motor, no trans, the interior is totally bad. It needs rockers, radiator support and some other rust repair too.

Redeeming features? (other than that its a 300se/c)
has a sunroof, vacuum door locks, matching period rims, all the glass, all chassis air parts and I believe it has electric windows. The car is some sort of hunter green mostly (the correct benz color code escapes me). The right bumpers are there too, but they're a tad green too, but from age.  I think I have all the keys. I have the paperwork.

It's in a garage in Reading PA right now with four flats. There's a chance they'll hold air.  If not, I'll swap in some other tire and let you keep the correctly marked period rim.

What a waste...

That's maybe 200$ worth of scrap right now. :(

welcome RR. We have been a quiet group lately. But only due to a lack of questions and folks sharing pictures of their rides while we wait for the world getting to a point that looks a bit like normal.  There are lots of armchair mechanics here. We look forward to seeing what you've got.

With warm regards,

Off-Topic / a 1960 190b ponton wagon
« on: December 14, 2020, 05:58:57 PM »
Henry Magno reached out to me about a 190b ponton wagon that a customer of his is selling. The car presents reasonably well, it even runs, but it needs brakes badly, some suspension work, maybe a head gasket and the underside needs like 100 hours of rust repair.  That pretty presentation is the paint holding the rust together. :)

The owner is the son of the original owner, and he's looking for 16,000$ for the car.  I offered 9k and was turned down.

More photos from Henry...
