Mechanical / Front Wheel Camber Adjustment
« on: March 23, 2021, 05:10:29 AM »
Hi Guys,

I hope everyone and their families are all well. Thanks Squiggle Dog for more or less single handedly keeping this forum going.

I am adjusting my front wheel camber and ran into something I hadn't considered before starting the job.

The specs for my 1963 220SEb/C call for 0 Degrees and 30 minutes of positive camber. If you set the eccentric bolt at the upper part of the kingpin so the camber is maximum positive (i.e the spindle is located to the maximum outboard position), you then have two choices to reduce the positive camber to achieve the target value. You can rotate the bolt clockwise or anti-clockwise and I assume that both will have the effect of moving the upper part of the kingpin further inboard and reducing the amount of positive camber.

Picture 1 - Spindle adjusted to give Max positive camber
Picture 2 - Spindle adjusted to give Max negative camber
Picture 3 - Midpoint with spindle high
Picture 4 - Midpoint with spindle low

My point is I believe that adjusting the spindle as per pictures 3 and 4 would give you a similar camber so which option should you choose? What other effect could the choice have?

Mechanical / Sway Bar Orientation
« on: January 16, 2021, 05:19:26 AM »
Hi everybody,

Hope you're all well. Like many others I have found myself with some time on my hands recently so my car has benefitted !

I removed and rebuilt the front subframe and suspension but have now run into a small issue.

When I went to refit the sway bar I thought there would be an obvious way to fit it but it seems you can fit it in two possible ways. I am not sure which is the right one. I can best describe it as the sway bar ends which locate on the links with the control arms could be located in a high or low position before tightening the link.

Does anybody have any advice for determining the correct orientation?

The car is a 1963 220Seb

Best Regards

Mechanical / Engine Mount Limit Stops
« on: December 31, 2019, 07:02:09 AM »
Hi all,

The "limit stop" hardware was missing from the engine mounts when I removed them from my car (1963 220SEb).

As per the image below my car should have the hardware on the left (parts 2, 14 plus the stud and 2 nuts) but it is all missing.

Does anybody know if I can I fit the later version hardware shown on the right (parts 6, 8 & 12) which is more readily available?

Cosmetic / Replacing sills (rockers)
« on: November 19, 2019, 02:08:05 PM »
Hi all,
Does anybody have any pictures of the sills (rocker panels) being replaced on their car? I am trying to get an idea about how the inner sill is fitted.
Also if anybody has replaced the jacking points as these little box sections can be bought individually.

Hi All,

I am a Brit living in Portugal. I have 63 220SE Cabrio (driver quality from California) and a 69 280SE Coupe (basket case from Oklahoma).

I have spent a lot of time on the SL113 forum and can't say enough about those guys. A brilliant resource with super helpful people.

Anyway I look forward to both learning and contributing on this board too.

Best Regards
