Cosmetic / Leather Interior colors/interior trim code reference
« on: December 14, 2018, 01:00:01 AM »
This is a comprehensive and all inclusive list of interior colors and trim codes that were available on the W110 and W111, and W112 saloons/limousines (sedans for Americans).  It will list the interior trim color code, color name (in German and English) and will list the color of carpeting, headliner, sun visors, and seat belts used with each trim code/color code.  For the sake of simplicity only leather will be covered.  If there is an interest in MB-Tex, Velour, and Streifen Karo interior colors/trim codes, then we can certainly make a separate post about those at another time! :)

It's understood throughout the entirety of this post that all wood work (Holzteile) was Beechwood tinted dark walnut.

Bear in mind that this post will not state the differences in interior design between early and late cars, and it won't cover the interior differences between the W110/w111/w112 saloons.  Only color names.

The following list will list interior trim codes for leather interiors.  MB-Tex interior colors were the same in name an appearance, but would have a different interior trim code that started with a "1" instead of a "2" like leather interior trim codes do.

201: Schwarz (Black) leather.  Headliner, and sun visors are light gray, seat belts are dark gray, carpeting is 6125 Schwarz (black) Boucle (Square weave) carpeting, while the W112 had 963 speckled gray and black velour carpeting.

202: Dunkel Rot (Dark Red leather).  Headliner and sun visors are Creme`, seat belts are gray beige, carpeting is mittelrot (medium red) square weave carpeting, while the W112 had middle red velour carpeting with black specs in it.

203: Mittelrot (Medium Red leather).  Headliner and sun visors are Creme`, seat belts are gray beige, carpeting is middle red, and the W112 had speckled medium red carpeting.

223: Mittelgrau (meduim gray leather):  Headliner and sun visors are light gray, seat belts are gray beige, carpeting is Anthrazite-grau meliert (Mottles anthracite gray) square weave), while the W112 had light gray velour.

224: Helloliv (Light Olive leather): ....think of a green olive you put in your salad.....Headliner and sun visors are Creme`, seat belts are gray beige, carpeting is mottled green square weave, while the W112 had Olive green velour.

***The next 4 interior trim codes apply only to W112 chassis with exteriors painted in blue***

225: Hellgrau (Light Gray leather):  Headliner and sun visors are light gray, seat belts were gray beige, carpeting was light gray velour.

226: Creme` leather:  Headliner and sun visors are Creme`, seat belts are gray beige, carpeting is Creme` velour.

227: Hellgelb Antik (Light antique yellow leather):  Headliner and sun visors are Creme`, seat belts are gray beige, and carpeting is light yellow velour.

228: Mittelgrau (Medium Gray leather):  Headliner and sun visors are gray, seat belts are gray beige, and carpeting is Hellgrau (bright gray) velour.

***End W112 chassis exception***

230: Eierschalenfarben (Eggshell colored leather)....essentially white.....Headliner and sun visors are Creme`, seat belts are gray beige, carpeting is mottled creme` square weave, while the W112 had mottled Schwarz (black) velour.....this carpeting had grey specks in it.

The other colored items on the interior such as the Heizungsabdeckung Pappe lackiert (Lacquered cardboard), Bodenbelag Fahrerboden Einstiege (Entrance rail rubber, left and right, foot mats for early W111 and all W110 cars), Scheuerschutz Fahrerboden Riffelgummi (Chafe protection driver floor mat bottom, ribbed rubber), Schutzpolster, Taschen Einbau in der Abdeckung der Instrumentafel-Abstützung Plastikfolie (Protective cushions, (window crank cushions) instrument panel, Plastic films)  generally complemented the interior color.  However, odd colors such as turquoise, all the greens, and maybe some of the extremely light colors, would have received various colored dash panels, door arm rests, etc.  For example, green interiors had black dash pads and black door arm rests.  Turquoise interiors had black dash pads and door arm rests with grey rubber mats, and Light colored interiors would have had brown dash pads and brown door arm rests.  But bear in mind that not all were the same, and the interior appointments book say to refer to the cars data card for exact information.

I'm sure there is a mistake in here somewhere, so if any are found please say something so it can be corrected.  I hope this is of some use, and if anyone has a question about an interior material type that isn't listed please ask!  I'm always eager to help!  :)

Introductions / Hello from Tennessee!
« on: November 23, 2018, 12:27:13 AM »
Hi all.  Well, I know Scott from the W116.org forum.  I only came to know about the Fintail forum from an off topic post Scott shared on the W116 forum.  So thank you, Scott!

I'm Aaron.  I own a restoration shop/business in which I restore and maintain vintage Mercedes and Rolls-Royce motor cars.  This work and love for the cars allows me to support my habit of collecting the same types of cars.  My first Mercedes was a 1969 280s, and W108.  When I was in college I worked at an injection pump repair shop rebuilding injection pumps, and later I worked at a Mercedes repair shop.  Lots of W108/W109, W114/W115, W123, and W126 cars.  But after college I returned home and somehow ended up with three fintails.....all diesels.  I sold my last fintail nearly 20 years ago.  I'd grown tired of them, but in the last few years I've been wanting another.  However, it's just not in the cards right now given the current projects I have ongoing.  Over the years, I've worked on a lot of fintails for other people ranging from diesels to gas versions, W110, W111, and W112.  Admittedly, while the M-189 is a fine engine, I've always been disappointed with how short lived they are.  And now you can't really get anything for them.....not even head gaskets.  BUT.....I always find a way.

My cars....oh goodness.  I've more than I need, but when has that ever stopped us from buying another?  haha  My current daily drivers are a 1972 300sel 4.5 (W109), a 1967 250se (W108), and a Euro 1987 300sel (W126).  In mid restoration is a 1971 300sel 6.3 (W109) and a 1984 300D (W123).  The other cars I have that remain in storage or are rarely driven are a 1976 280S (W116), 1977 Silver Shadow II, a 1979 450sel (W116), and a 1966 250se coupe (W111). They're all in really good shape, but have really low mileage, and I try to keep the mileage down....but they're all regularly driven.  Though, the 1979 450sel is Father's car and has 220,000 miles on it.  He does drive it often.  Three of my cars are black with dark olive leather, and my W123 is Champagne metallic with dark Olive MB-Tex.  If you can't tell, I love dark green  and black.

So, I can only hope that after being in the business that I'm in for 20 years that I can be of some use to someone.  Knowledge is free from me, and always will be.  So please reach out if the situation calls for it!  In addition to technical help, I'm good with finding part numbers, parts availability, and I have a substantial library of factory literature and advertising literature.  I also have an interior appointments book that tells us the exact color of everything on/in the car according to the cars interior trim code. And I'm addicted to deciphering data cards, too!  And I also love repairing/restoring the original Becker, Grundig, Blaupunkt, and Telefunken radios that came in our cars.  So I hope to be of some use!  :)
I'm certainly looking forward to doing a lot of reading.
